"Be nice to people on your way up because you'll meet them in your way down."-
Wilson Mizner - American playwright, raconteur, and entrepreneur. (1876 - 1933)
Part 1
You know, when it comes to how your company could grow you must start thinking of its resources. Every company has three, and only three, types of resources. And these resources are as follows:
- people;
- time;
- money.
In fact, time could be converted into money, but this is another story. And I will write about this subject in another article from this blog.
Now, let me ask you this very important question. Of all these three resources your company has, which one do you think is the most important of all: people, time, or money?
If you answered "people" you are 100% right. People are the most important resource your company has!
How comes? Let me explain it to you. In a few sentences.
Let's take a look at the pyramid above. This is a very simple pyramid of roles within a large company. What do you notice on every level of this pyramid?
What do all levels have in common?
Exactly! Every level contains people! No matter if you talk about employees, supervisors, middle managers, (vice) presidents, CEO, or company owner(-s), you are talking in fact about people. Every level of this pyramid is made of people!
And all these people must be correctly interconnected if you want your company to grow, develop, and live many years/decades to come.
Since you agree that people are the most important resource, is important for you to know some basics about people.
Why are these basics important to you as a leader, CEO, or company owner?
Because you must know what are you dealing with when it comes to people.
Firstly, and the most important thing you must know about people, is this: more than 95% of mentally functional people are good people. When I write "good" I mean they have the right common sense. They avoid hurting you, yelling at you, or bulling you unless they are forced to act like that. This is the way people are born.
