Is it possible to act as Coach and Manager in the same time?

I read a few posts on social media about Managers who are also Coaches.

And as a Coach with more than 35 years of experience in both Coaching and Managing I want to tell you that is impossible to act as both Coach and Manager with your team.

Why I am writing this?

3 Reasons it's impossible to be both Coach and Manager with the same team

Reason no. 1

Manager and Coach have different roles within the team.

The manager's role is to direct the activities of each project.

The Coach's role is to help the client become aware of the best solution to reach goals and of how to act to apply that solution in practice.

Reason no. 2

In this lifetime is impossible to become an expert in more than 1 field/domain/area of activity because you do not have time for this. Is impossible to be a doctor and engineer at the same time, with the same team, and have the best possible results as both.

You must decide about one single profession and after that, you must do whatever it takes to become an expert in that field/area/domain and to positively impact others.

Reason no. 3

Your team members will be confused because they will never know which role you play in every moment when you talk to them: Manager or Coach.

And if you want maximum performance to be achieved by your team is impossible to tell them now "Look, now I am acting as a Manager", and 3 hours later to tell them "Look, now I am acting as a Coach"!
