The Five Pillars of Communication With Your Employees

"The most important thing in communication is hearing what isn't said." -

Peter Drucker - Austrian-American management consultant, educator, and author (1909 - 2005)

Maybe this question came into your mind reading the title of this article: "Didn't I hear a lot about communication yet?"

And here is my answer:

Maybe you have heard a lot about communication, and maybe you have joined some webinars and training related to this subject, and maybe you have read a lot of books about it, but what I am going to reveal to you below is theessence of communication. No fancy words, no complicated formulas, no scams.

Enough talking, let's cut to the chase and see what the five pillars of your communication with your employees are.

Do you want your employees to respect you?

Master these five pillars every time you talk to them.

Pillar no. 1 - Keep your voice down

This is the most important pillar.

Avoid shouting when talking to employees. Show them that you are able to control yourself, even when they do mistakes. In fact, especially when they do mistakes!

Avoid raising your voice when you talk on the mobile phone to a supplier/client, relative, or friend, with the door of your office open and employees nearby.

Avoid shouting or raising your voice during meetings with your leaders, managers, or supervisors.

Pillar no. 2 - Avoid giving commands

Do you want something to be done by one or more of your employees? Ask her/him/them politely.

Start your sentence with the word "Please". After all, you should be able to consider them as your help instead of considering them as your servants.

Always keep in mind that you are making a lot of money because of their efforts, not vice-versa!

Pillar no. 3 - Avoid swearing like a sailor

It is a matter of self-control, also. You must show your employees that you are a lord. A lord of language, a lord of words, a lord of meanings. Give them the best example. Be their model in communication. Make them feel safe when you talk to them.

Pillar no. 4 - Use simple words

When you talk to your employees think that you are talking to a 12-year-old child. If a 12-year-old child has problems in understanding what you are telling him/her, it means you should use other words.

Pillar no. 5 - Use short sentences

Use sentences with a maximum of 20-30 words, especially when you want to talk for more than 2 minutes. Otherwise, it will be hard for your employees to listen word by word to what you say.

Of course that there are also other important things to master when it comes to communication with your employees, but the 5 above are the most important ones.

Do you want to master the art of communication with your employees?

Do you want to discover how to eliminate fear when you talk during meetings?

Do you want your employees quitely listen every word you say?
